Remembering Lee Kuan Yew

The Labour Movement dedicates this page to Lee Kuan Yew – The Father of Our Nation, A Brother to Our Workers.

Lee Kuan Yew’s friendship with the Labour Movement had its beginnings in the fractious environment of the 1950s. Having experienced the disadvantages of an antagonistic relationship between management and unions, he led Singapore on an earnest journey towards a better tomorrow – a  journey that was marked by trust and co-operation, and with the interests of our workers not only as a guiding principle, but also as its final goal.

Over the decades, Lee Kuan Yew has been relentless in his push towards better wages, better homes, better schools, better hospitals, better playing fields and better lives for the workers of Singapore. It is this vision that has shaped the Labour Movement into what it is today. And it is for this reason that as a Labour Movement family, we gather to recount Lee Kuan Yew ties with us, and in doing so, we celebrate his life and contributions to the workers of Singapore.

We will always honour and remember his legacy, lived out in each and every one of our lives.
