Youths for a Competitive and Inclusive Singapore (YCIS) is a programme inspired by President Nathan’s vision for a competitive yet cohesive nation. Go on an educational journey of sharing sessions and engage in ‘knowledge kopitiam’ with dialogue centred around the 5C’s; Competitiveness, Cohesion, Compact, Compassion and Choice.

Goals
   
  A new initiative of Young NTUC, YCIS supports the cause, ‘Labour Movement for All, All for Labour Movement’ - a cause that seeks to bring together high and low income earners, the young and the old, Singaporeans and foreigners alike. With a strong belief in the younger generation and their desire to shape the future of Singapore, the programme will encourage 200 youths to delve into a broad range of national socio-economic issues that affect Singapore society today. With the insight gained, these individuals will;  
   
 
develop a greater appreciation of the challenges and possible solutions to these challenges
   
understand what competitiveness and inclusion means for Singapore and how it relates to them
     
  be able to make informed choices for themselves and for Singapore.
 
     
     
 

Programme Structure and Dates

 
     
  The forum will be divided into 2 phases. Each phase comprises 3 full days over 2 weekends. The dates are:  
     
 
1st Phase - Saturday 5th May (Opening Session +
Dialogue with Sec-General of NTUC, Minister Lim Swee Say)
  - Saturday 12th May (Competitiveness)
  - Sunday 13th May (Cohesion)
     
2nd Phase - Saturday 30th June (Compassion)
    - Sunday 7th July (Compact)
  - Saturday 25th August (Closing Session – Choice +
Dialogue with PM Lee Hsien Loong)
 
     
  Certificate of Participation will be presented to participants who have 65% attendance.

Singapore Dreaming: The other 5Cs

Cash, credit card, car, condo, country club. Cliched. Li Xueying, Goh Chin Lian and Keith Lin speak to MPs and observers about the President’s Address at the opening of Parliament this week and conclude that it contains the new Five Cs that should matter to concerned Singaporeans.

 
 
 
• Competitiveness
– Strong economy and good jobs for Singaporeans

• Cohesion
– Peace and harmony in a multi-racial and multi-religious society

• Compassion
– Identifying with fellow citizens and lending a helping hand to those in need

• Compact
– Singapore transformation and sustaining the fruits of our success

• Choice
– Avenues for people to try out ideas and fulfill aspirations and make a decision to move ahead with fellow Singaporeans as one people

Learning Catalysts Group
 
     
    

We are appointing a 15-member panel called the Learning Catalysts Group which will be co-chaired by Mrs Josephine Teo, Director of NTUC Youth Development Unit and Human Resource Department and Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, and Mr Edwin Lye, Chairperson of Young NTUC Committee. There will be 3 Learning Catalysts for each “C”.

The Learning Catalysts who represent the new face of Singaporeans portray a positive image of young professionals and serve as good role models to youths.

They are interested in national issues, have contributed to society, and are established in their careers. The Learning Catalysts will contribute to YCiS in the following ways:

• Serving as resource persons to the YCiS Secretariat
• Providing ideas and inputs to the programme and outcomes of YCiS
• Facilitating the learning journeys and “Knowledge Kopitiams”
